Today's word would describe some of the poses the students drew on their paper bag project. When studying art history, contrapposto is a common term when describing sculpture or painted figures. The sculpture pictured to the left shows a figure in a contrapposto pose. The bronze statue is entitled "David" and was created by Andrea del Verrocchio before 1476 in the Bargello, Florence.
contrapposto - describes one particular pose an artist may give a sculpted or painted human figure. The subject is depicted with his or her weight shifted to one leg, causing that leg to appear rigid with its knee locked, its foot flat on the ground and its hip thrust out a bit.
